A virtual exhibition of our world of fungi. This site has been designed for viewing on a desktop browser.

Above ground and below, gigantic or microscopic, fungal lives have been studied, are sources of food, consumed as medicine, and marveled as art. The more is discovered about fungi, the more it seems to reveal how much we do not understand about our world. ‍

In a minute or two the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth and yawned once or twice, and shook itself. Then it got down off the mushroom, and crawled away in the grass, merely remarking as it went, β€˜One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter.’

β€˜One side of what? The other side of what?’ thought Alice to herself.β€˜Of the mushroom,’ said the Caterpillar, just as if she had asked it aloud; and in another moment it was out of sight.

Excerpt from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

There is much to appreciate about the fungi that are found everywhere on our planet. over evolutionary time, they have conquered the harshest environments and formed tight relationships with a whole host of other organisms. From the depths of the sea to the driest deserts, from within 'zombified' ants to within our own bodies, the fungi are feared foes but also very important friends for us and our environment. An understanding and appreciation of these amazing organisms are crucial for knowing how best to conserve the life of this planet, including our own.

This virtual exhibition aims to bring you on a journey through time and different aspects of human culture, acknowledging the fungi that shaped, shape, and will continue to shape our societies. This work is done for LSM3259, Fungal Biology, Creative Project assignment.

Thank you Dr Amy Choong for opening our eyes to this amazing world!
